PROFESSOR DR. MD. OMAR FARUK

Professor Dr. Md. Omar Faruk is working in the Department of Criminology and Police Science, Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University (MBSTU), Santosh, Tangail-1902, Bangladesh. He is the first professor in the field of criminology and police science in Bangladesh. Presently, he is Dean of the Faculty of Life Science and Chairman, of the Department of Criminology and Police Science, Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University. He is also the Director of, the Intuitional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University. He has 20 above years of experience in teaching, academic research, and research consultancy. He is a competent academic having forty-seven national and international peer-reviewed journal articles, six book, thirty conference papers, and fifteen research consultant reports at home and abroad. He is also an adjunct faculty of a specialized Master’s program in Victimology and Restorative Justice at the Institute of Social Welfare and Research, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh Police Academy and National Security Intelligence (NSI), Bangladesh. He has also served as a resource person and a faculty of the World Society of Victimology in Hong Kong, Croatia, Malaysia, and India. He is also an expert syllabus designer and curriculum developer making a significant contribution to designing syllabus and curriculum for both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the field of criminology and victimology at Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh Police Academy and Bangladesh Open University. Dr. Faruk is also a member of the present Selection Board of the Department of Public Administration, Barishal University.

Dr. Faruk proved his worth as a Dean, of the Faculty of Social Sciences at Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University. He chaired the executive committee, Faculty of Social Sciences and played a key role in forming the first academic Ordinance for Social Sciences of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the university. He also held the post of proctorship of the university for consecutive two terms. Besides, he played an important role as a Syndicate/Regent Board Member of the university. He also served as a provost of a residential hall Martyred freedom fighter Ziar Rahman Hall of the university. Moreover, he worked as a member of the University Central and Faculty Admission Committee, Academic Council, Vice-Chancellor and Faculty Scholarship Committee, Disciplinary Action Committee, Probe, and Advisory Committee.

Dr. Faruk is a life member of the South Asian Society of Criminology and Victimology, a member of the World Society of Victimology, an advisor of International Youth Action against Terrorism and the Vice-President of Bangladesh Society of Criminology. Dr. Faruk is also the founding president of the Asian Society of Victimology and Bangladesh Society of Criminology and Victimology. He is also the chairperson (honorary) of the Centre for Crime and Victim Studies.

As an effort of his professional development, Dr. Faruk has completed an international postgraduate course on Victimology, Victim Assistance, and the Criminal Justice System. He has also attended training on the Capacity Development Program for Teachers in Criminology from National Law University, Delhi, India. Furthermore, he has also participated in training on Social Artistry Leadership held in Katmandu, Nepal. Moreover, he has completed an advanced training course on Research Techniques in Social Sciences at the University of Dhaka. In addition, he has attended a training program on International Technology of Participation (ToP) at the University of Dhaka.

Now he is a senior Executive Member of, the Teachers Association, 2023. Mawlana Bhashani Science & Technology University, Santosh, Tangail-1902, Bangladesh. During his studentship at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), he was a member of Bangladesh and Worked as a Nationalist Student Party and an Advisory Council. Besides, he has been an organizer and advisor of different cultural and social organizations both at SUST and MBSTU. Furthermore, He has shared his research topics in various national and international media in the light of his experience and works in light.
