About Me
Subrata has been serving as an Associate Professor (on educational leave) in the Department of Criminology and Police Science at Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University in Dhaka, Bangladesh. He is currently a PhD researcher in the Department of Pacific Affairs at the Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs at the Australian National University, Australia. In 2012, he completed an internship in Terrorism Prevention at the UNODC in Vienna, Austria, and graduated with a second MA in Criminology from the University of Ottawa, Canada, in 2020. His master's research project was titled “A Critical Analysis of How Sexual Violence against Women is Defined and Addressed within Existing Legal Instruments in Bangladesh.” Prior to this, he earned his undergraduate degree and first Master’s degree in Criminology and Police Science in Bangladesh. Additionally, he has worked as a researcher on various projects for the Bangladesh Police, focusing on policing and criminal justice issues. He also has experience in gender rights, policing, labour rights, and children's rights within developmental and human rights organizations. His current PhD research at the Australian National University examines the role of service providers in helping women access justice for domestic violence cases in Bangladesh and Papua New Guinea. He has authored several publications on topics such as gender-based violence, labour rights, children's rights, terrorism, punishment, and policing, and has presented papers at numerous national and international conferences.
